TMDB metadata matching
Configure optional customer-key movie, series and episode matching with batch review, language fallback and protected manual metadata.

Purpose and location
Open VOD Library → TMDB metadata to enrich draft titles before publication. Matching is disabled by default and never publishes content automatically. Use your own credential and review uncertain matches.
Configure your own TMDB access
- Obtain your own TMDB API key/read-access token with suitable API and data/image usage rights. xOTT does not ship a shared key.
- Open Settings in the metadata panel, enter the credential and confirm usage rights.
- Keep en-US and original-language fallback or choose supported language codes.
- Save, test the saved credential, then enable matching when ready.
A developer key alone does not grant commercial usage rights. Read TMDB’s API terms/FAQ. Keys are stored privately; do not include one in a screenshot or public support message.
What can match automatically
Movies/series need a verified external ID or unique exact title and year. Ambiguous matches need review. Episodes need a verified parent and exact numbering plus title/identity evidence, unless you explicitly verify TMDB aired order. The matcher deliberately does not guess that a filename or episode release year is the series’ identity.
Existing provider/manual fields remain intact, including protected manual clears. Uncertain results stay reviewable. Recordings are excluded and published movies/episodes are not rewritten by background matching.
Match a small batch first
- Select draft Library titles and choose Match selected. Up to 500 selections can be submitted; parent-series checks are included.
- Use Include draft episodes for a bounded series batch or select episode pages for larger series.
- Choose a per-batch language if needed. Refresh only unchanged TMDB-owned fields when deliberately changing metadata language.
- Review paginated results, select a candidate for ambiguous titles and confirm its identity.
- Publish explicitly after review. A pre-publication check can queue work; a manual skip is available because enrichment is optional.
Jobs retain progress through restarts. Cancellation and title/parent/config revisions prevent stale writes. Unlink clears only unchanged TMDB-owned values, not media files or manually edited metadata.
External metadata is not a guarantee
TMDB data can be incomplete or incorrect. API failures are bounded/retried and rate limits respected; uncertain results need human judgment. The initial live smoke check validated representative movie, series, episode and English/Spanish cases, not every catalogue title or commercial agreement.
